Tile Pool vs Liner Pool - The Honest Comparison
One of the most common questions we get from homeowners in Bangalore and across India is: "Should I go for a tile pool or a liner pool?" Both have their place, but the right answer depends on your budget, timeline, climate and how long you plan to keep the pool.
This guide is written by Aquarist Pools and Fitness - we build both types, so we have no incentive to favour one over the other.
What is a Tile Pool?
A tile pool is a permanent concrete (RCC) pool whose interior is finished with ceramic, porcelain, glass mosaic or natural stone tiles. This is the most common premium pool type in India.
- Construction time: 8 - 14 weeks
- Lifespan: 25 - 40+ years with re-tiling once every 15-20 years
- Cost: Higher upfront, lower lifetime cost
- Look: Premium, resort-grade, fully customisable
What is a Liner Pool?
A liner pool uses a flexible PVC or reinforced vinyl membrane stretched over a steel, polymer or concrete shell. It is the standard in some Western markets but less common in India.
- Construction time: 3 - 6 weeks
- Lifespan: Liner needs replacement every 7 - 12 years
- Cost: Lower upfront, but recurring replacement cost
- Look: Limited patterns, joints may be visible at corners
Side-by-Side Comparison

Which Should You Choose?
Choose a Tile Pool if you own the property, want long-term durability, plan to use the pool for 15+ years, and care about aesthetics and resale value. This is what we recommend for 90% of homeowners in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune.
Choose a Liner Pool if you need a fast-build pool for a rental villa, resort or temporary residence, have a strict upfront budget, and accept the recurring liner replacement cost every 7-10 years.
The Aquarist Pools Recommendation
For Indian climate and long-term homes, a properly waterproofed RCC tile pool almost always wins on total cost of ownership. Our standard build uses double-coat crystalline waterproofing, branded mosaic tiles and BIS-grade filtration - giving you a worry-free pool for decades.
